Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark cast member T.V. Carpio has permanently assumed the role of spider goddess Arachne after original star Natalie Mendoza departed the production.
Carpio has been filling in for Mendoza (alternating with understudy America Olivo) since she played her last performance on December 20. Mendoza had left the production temporarily after suffering a concussion, but recently announced her permanent leave. Carpio had been playing the role of Miss Arrow, part of the show's Geek Chorus, which will now be taken over by new cast member Alice Lee (Spring Awakening).
Carpio previously appeared on Broadway in Rent. She also starred as Prudence in Across the Universe, Spider-Man director Julie Taymor's 2007 movie musical. Her other film credits include She Hate Me and Limitless.
Featuring a score by U2's Bono and The Edge and a book by Taymor and Glen Berger, Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark also stars Reeve Carney as the title hero, Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson and Patrick Page as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. The musical began performances on November 28, 2010, at the Foxwoods Theatre and is set to open on February 7.
